About Us

personAt Paul’s Bait & Tackle, the oldest business of our kind in the city of St. Louis, we began our 50th year on January 1, 2009.

The store, located at 4421 Chippewa Street in south St. Louis, was founded by Paul Evers. Evers and his wife Marilyn operated the business until Paul’s death in 1991. His wife and daughters continued to run the business until Marilyn’s passing in 2004. The daughters have carried on the family tradition by working at the store since they were children. Eunice (Evers) Bain, 43, is president of the firm and her sister, Ruth Evers, 45, is the secretary-treasurer. Eunice’s husband, Steve, 50, serves as vice president.

We sell 30,000 crickets, 20,000 minnows, and more than 10,000 night crawlers and other live bait weekly. We are open year-round to serve anglers, pet owners, laboratories and universities throughout the area.

We sell all types of fishing tackle from top-of-the-line to moderately priced manufacturers in order to support the needs of anglers who fish for anything from the smallest pan fish to the largest game fish. We repair reels, rods and trolling motors, and we also custom build rods and provide local taxidermy.

During our 50th year, Paul’s Bait & Tackle will have a series of open houses. The first will be from March 17 through March 19, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Company representatives from a number of tackle manufacturers will be at the store. During the open houses, there will be special pricing and prize drawings.

There will also be monthly prize drawings, culminating in a grand prize drawing at the end of the year.
